Geist. Leather Softener

Geist. Leather Softener is a plant-derived, ageing-resistant oil designed to restore flexibility to hardened leather by replenishing internal lubrication. Unlike traditional oil-based treatments that oxidize over time, this formula remains stable, allowing it to soften leather without contributing to long-term degradation.

It penetrates through modern coated leather finishes and works within the fiber structure, reducing internal friction between collagen fibers - the root cause of stiffness and cracking.

What It Does

  • Softens hardened leather
Deep-penetrating oils lubricate dried-out collagen fibers, allowing them to move freely again instead of binding and cracking.

  • Helps prevent cracking
Restores flexibility and reduces stress within the leather structure where damage typically begins.

  • UV and light protection
Integrated wide-spectrum UV filters help reduce damage from sunlight and visible light exposure while supporting antioxidant protection.

  • Natural feel, no residue
Leaves leather with a dry, factory-like finish - no grease, no gloss, no sticky afterfeel.

Why Leather Hardens

Leather is made of interwoven collagen fibers that rely on internal oils to stay flexible. Over time, these oils oxidize and evaporate, increasing friction between fibers. This leads to stiffness, then cracking.

Geist. Leather Softener replaces that lost lubrication with a non-oxidizing oil system, allowing fibers to slide again instead of resisting movement.

Features:

  • Plant-derived, non-oxidizing oil blend
  • Wide-spectrum UV protection with antioxidant support
  • Solvent-free - no fluorocarbons or nanoparticles
  • No added fragrance
  • No shine, no greasy residue

Where It Works Best:

  • Automotive leather seats and interiors
  • Furniture and upholstery
  • Shoes, boots, belts, and garments
  • Any coated leather surface showing stiffness or early signs of drying

Note: On porous or aniline leathers, darkening may occur - always test first.

This is not:

  • A surface dressing or gloss enhancer
  • A coating or protective sealant
  • Intended to dramatically change appearance

Directions:

  1. Test on a hidden area before starting.
  2. Clean the leather surface with a Geist. Rapid Cleaner and wait until the surface is dry.
  3. Spray the product evenly over the entire surface.
  4. Hard leathers can benefit if the Leather Softener is massaged into the surface with a cloth or with the fingers.
  5. Leave to sink-in in overnight.
  6. Repeat if necessary. Hardening is a gradual process, and so is softening. Several treatments are often necessary.

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

  • Applying to dirty leather (blocks penetration)
  • Expecting instant softness on severely hardened leather (may require multiple treatments)
  • Skipping a test spot on sensitive or porous materials
