Choose Your Spray Pattern:
Narrower nozzles, like the 25-degree option, concentrate the spray pattern, increasing pressure while reducing water flow (GPM). If your pressure washer operates at lower PSI, a narrower spray angle can enhance cleaning power, though it limits water movement. This makes a 25-degree nozzle a solid choice for tougher cleaning tasks. However, anything below 25 degrees may be too aggressive for most automotive detailing applications.
On the other hand, wider nozzles, such as the 40-degree version, disperse the spray, reducing pressure while increasing water flow. If your pressure washer has a higher PSI, a wider angle helps prevent excessive force while allowing more water movement. This makes it ideal for general maintenance washing and rinsing.
Important Information:
Every pressure washer is unique, each having its own PSI (Pressure per Square Inch) and GPM (Gallons Per Minute) rating. These two factors dictate the orifice size that is perfect for your pressure washer.
Use the MTM Hydro Calculator to make sure this nozzle is sufficient for your pressure washer setup. Enter your rated gpm and psi of your pressure washer. Once the "Nozzle Size" has populated, round to the nearest available size. This will prevent backloading your pressure washer and damaging your machine. It will also ensure you are retaining the right amount of pressure to use all your accessories properly.
Why Nozzle Size Matters:
-
Too large of an orifice: Reduces pressure too much, leading to ineffective cleaning.
-
Too small of an orifice: Increases pressure beyond safe limits, restricting water flow and potentially damaging the pump.
For vehicle washing, the ideal balance is Low PSI (1000-1200 PSI) with the highest GPM possible to maximize cleaning efficiency without excessive pressure. While the MTM chart is a great starting point, small adjustments may be needed based on your specific pressure washer model. Always ensure your PSI does not exceed your machine’s rated working pressure.
