CARPRO ECH2O Complete Guide: Waterless Washing, Dilution Ratios, and More
A quick wipe-down before a car show. A maintenance wash when you cannot get to a hose. A little extra lubrication while drying or claying your paint. These are different jobs, but CARPRO ECH2O can handle all of them with the right dilution and technique.
At Sky’s the Limit Car Care, ECH2O is one of our favorite products for waterless washing and quick detailing. It combines useful cleaning power with the gloss and slickness that make freshly detailed paint so satisfying. And because it is a concentrate, one bottle gives you plenty of opportunities to put it to work.
This guide walks through what CARPRO ECH2O does, how to mix it, and how to get the most from it without making your detailing routine more complicated.
What Is CARPRO ECH2O?
CARPRO ECH2O is a concentrated, SiO₂ based cleaner and gloss enhancer. Depending on how you dilute it, you can use it as a waterless wash, quick detailer, rinseless wash, clay lubricant, or drying aid. You can also use it for glass cleaning and occasional cleaning of suitable hard interior surfaces.
Its versatility comes from the combination of cleaning ability and lubrication. You need a product that helps loosen dirt, but you also need enough lubrication to move a towel across the surface with care. ECH2O brings those qualities together while leaving a slick, glossy finish.
For an enthusiast, that means several useful applications from one bottle. For a detailing business, it means a concentrate that can earn its place across multiple steps of a job.
Why We Like ECH2O: Cleaning Power, Gloss, and Slickness
The first thing many people notice is the finish. ECH2O leaves paint looking glossy and feeling slick, making it a rewarding final touch after cleaning.
But the cleaning ability is what makes it especially useful. In our demonstration, the first pass removes loose dirt with very little pressure. A second application then lets us focus on the remaining marks and residue. That separation matters: before working on a spot, you want to remove the loose debris that could otherwise get dragged across the paint.
We also note some short term water beading after use. Think of that as a useful secondary benefit. Choose ECH2O primarily for cleaning, lubrication, and appearance, and maintain your vehicle’s protection with the appropriate dedicated product.
CARPRO ECH2O Dilution Ratios
Dilution changes how ECH2O fits into your routine. The table below combines the current product directions with the application.
| Application | Dilution or mixing guidance | Practical starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Waterless wash | 1:10 to 1:15 | 1:15 and move up if you feel you need more cleaning power. |
| Quick detailer | 1:15 to 1:25 | Corey prefers 1:15; the product page suggests starting at 1:25. |
| Clay lubricant | 1:40 | Corey’s detailed clay instructions use 1:40. |
| Drying aid | 1:40 | Corey’s preferred dilution from our video. |
| Rinseless wash | 2–3 fluid ounces in 3 gallons of water | Current bucket directions: Use 1 ounce per gallon. |
| Suitable for hard interior surfaces | 1:30 | For occasional interior use recommendation. |
A ratio of 1:15 means one part ECH2O concentrate to 15 parts water. It does not mean one part product in 15 total parts.
To make approximately 16 fluid ounces of solution at 1:15, combine 1 fluid ounce of concentrate with 15 fluid ounces of water. For an approximately 17 fluid ounce bottle at 1:40, use about 0.41 fluid ounces of concentrate and 16.59 fluid ounces of water.
The product page also lists 1:200 as a rinseless dilution. That is more dilute than the bucket method above. For the method described here, follow the listed bucket directions rather than treating those two mixes as identical.
Shake the concentrate before mixing, measure your amounts, and label each bottle with its intended use and dilution. Clean, filtered water is our preference, especially where tap water is very hard.
Quick Detailer vs. Waterless Wash: What Changes?
The same bottle can serve both purposes, but the condition of the vehicle changes your approach.
A quick detailer is for a generally clean surface that needs a light touch up. Think fingerprints, a few light marks, or a finishing wipe after washing. A waterless wash handles more surface dirt and requires more solution, more clean towel faces, and greater care during the first pass.
This is one of the most useful distinctions in the video. You should not approach a dirty panel with the same casual spray and buff technique you would use on a freshly washed car.
How to Use ECH2O as a Quick Detailer
On a suitable, generally clean surface, apply a small amount to the towel and a light mist to the panel. Gently spread and wipe, then turn to a clean towel face to buff away the remaining product.
Work one panel at a time and inspect the finish as you go. If the towel begins picking up visible dirt, reassess the surface and switch to a wash approach with fresh towels and sufficient solution.
How to Waterless Wash with CARPRO ECH2O
Waterless washing is convenient when hose access is limited, but choosing the right vehicle condition and using clean towels are essential. Heavy mud, gritty buildup, and substantial abrasive debris call for a thorough rinse before contact washing.
For a suitable maintenance clean, we recommend ECH2O at 1:15 with a plush microfiber towel. His demonstration follows a deliberate sequence.
1. Apply Plenty of Solution
Spray the panel liberally and dampen the towel with the diluted product. The first wipe should take place on a well-lubricated surface.
You are doing this without a pressure washer or hose to remove loose debris first, so this is not the time to stretch a tiny mist across an entire panel.
2. Make the First Pass with Very Little Pressure
Gently move the towel across the surface in an organized direction. Your goal is to pick up loose dirt, not scrub away every remaining mark.
Watch the towel. As soon as a face becomes dirty, turn to a clean section. Replace the towel once you have used its clean faces. A contaminated towel should not return to the paint.
3. Apply ECH2O Again and Address Remaining Marks
After removing loose debris, mist the panel again and use a fresh towel face or a new towel to clean the remaining residue. Work in smaller sections where necessary.
Avoid increasing pressure against a mark that is not releasing. Some contamination needs a dedicated treatment rather than repeated rubbing.
4. Buff to a Clean Finish
Use a separate clean towel to remove the remaining product and check the result before moving on. This final wipe helps bring out the gloss and remove any light haze.
Choosing a Towel for Waterless Washing
In our ECH2O video, Corey uses the Microfiber Madness Crazy Pile. Its soft, plush construction makes it a great companion for ECH2O waterless washing and quick detailing, giving you plenty of pile for gently picking up light surface dirt. Keep several available so you can switch to a fresh towel as you work, and reserve a clean one for the final buff that brings out ECH2O’s gloss.
Whatever quality microfiber you choose, have enough towels available to keep working with clean faces. Trying to finish the vehicle with one increasingly dirty towel undermines the care you put into the wash.
Fold your towel into manageable sections, monitor what it picks up, and reserve clean towels for the final wipe. The product and the towel work together, and technique matters just as much as the choice of cleaner.
Using ECH2O as a Clay Lubricant
Corey recommends ECH2O at 1:40 for both traditional detailing clay and synthetic clay tools such as the CARPRO PolyShave towel, block, or pad.
Start with washed paint. Apply the diluted solution to your working area, keep the surface lubricated, and use the clay according to its directions. Work within one panel at a time and wipe away the remaining solution before moving to the next section.
If the tool begins dragging, stop and check your lubrication and technique. ECH2O supplies the lubricant; the clay tool performs the mechanical decontamination.
Using ECH2O as a Drying Aid
If you dry with towels, ECH2O can add lubrication and leave a pleasing finish during that step. Our preferred dilution is 1:40.
After washing and rinsing the vehicle, lightly mist a wet panel and dry it with your drying towel. Inspect the panel and use a clean towel for a final buff if any residue remains.
Use a light application and adjust as needed. The surface is already clean, so the generous spray used for the first pass of a waterless wash is unnecessary here.
For drying, the Microfiber Madness Dry Me Crazy Jr. gives you a soft, highly absorbent towel in a manageable 16 × 16 inch size. It is a convenient choice for drying individual panels as you work around the vehicle, especially during a rinseless wash where each panel should be finished before moving on.
Cleaning Glass with ECH2O
Glass cleaning follows much the same logic as paint cleaning: assess how dirty the surface is and adapt your technique. Light fingerprints need a different approach from exterior glass carrying visible dirt.
Good advice is to finish with a completely clean towel that has no product on it. That final buff removes remaining haze and helps reveal a clear finish.
A simple way to track down streaks: wipe the outside glass in one direction and the inside glass in another. For example, use horizontal passes outside and vertical passes inside. Any remaining streak then tells you which side needs attention.
Can You Use ECH2O Inside the Vehicle?
In our ECH2O video, Corey discusses occasional use at approximately 1:30 on suitable hard interior surfaces, including vinyl, plastic, and finished leather. He also mentions using it on the display in his own vehicle.
We still prefer dedicated interior products for routine interior work. Materials, finishes, and screen coatings vary, so follow the vehicle manufacturer’s cleaning guidance and test compatibility before using a cleaner on an unfamiliar surface. Apply to the towel for controlled use around electronics.
ECH2O is not intended for cleaning fabric upholstery or carpets. Its interior value is as an occasional option for compatible surfaces when you have limited products available.
How to Perform a Rinseless Wash with ECH2O
A rinseless wash uses a bucket of diluted solution to clean the vehicle without a separate hose rinse afterward. It is different from a waterless wash, where you apply the solution from a spray bottle.
For the bucket method, use the mixing guidance in the dilution table and prepare a second bucket of clean rinse water.
If you prefer sponge-style wash media, the Microfiber Madness IncredISponge is a great option to pair with ECH2O for this method. Its plush microfiber exterior and absorbent foam core hold wash solution for controlled passes across the panel. Keep it well soaked, use light pressure, and rinse it thoroughly in your separate rinse bucket before reloading it with fresh ECH2O solution.
- Soak clean wash media in the ECH2O solution.
- Gently clean a manageable portion of one panel.
- Rinse the dirty wash media thoroughly before returning it to the solution bucket, or switch to fresh, clean media.
- Finish cleaning the panel, then dry it completely.
- Inspect the result before moving to the next panel.
Smaller sections help you manage dirt and prevent solution from sitting on the vehicle while you work elsewhere. As with waterless washing, substantial abrasive buildup should be rinsed away before contact.
What About Water Spots, Sap, and Other Stubborn Contamination?
ECH2O handles useful maintenance cleaning, but some marks require a product designed for that particular contamination.
When ordinary cleaning does not remove a spot. The practical lesson is to change your approach instead of continuing to rub harder with the same towel.
Follow the chosen treatment’s current directions, including its removal or rinsing requirements.
How Much Mixed Product Does One Bottle Make?
Concentration is a major part of ECH2O’s value. A 500 ml bottle mixed at 1:15 produces 8 liters of solution, or approximately 2.1 US gallons. At 1:40, it produces 20.5 liters, or approximately 5.4 US gallons.
Those are calculated mixed volumes, including both concentrate and added water. Actual usage depends on your application and technique, but the takeaway is straightforward: you are buying multiple bottles’ worth of usable solution in one concentrate.
That gives enthusiasts an economical way to maintain a vehicle and gives professional detailers a flexible product for several recurring tasks.
CARPRO ECH2O vs. EliXir: Which Should You Choose?
ECH2O is the versatile concentrate to reach for when you want cleaning ability, lubrication, and gloss across several detailing tasks. CARPRO EliXir Ceramic Detailer is a ready-to-use option that focuses on adding gloss, protection, and stronger water repellency with a quick application. Choose ECH2O for waterless or rinseless washing, clay lubrication, and economical maintenance; choose EliXir when your generally clean vehicle needs a finishing touch with added hydrophobic performance. They also work well in the same routine: clean with ECH2O, then apply EliXir sparingly according to its directions for an extra boost in gloss and water beading.
CARPRO ECH2O Frequently Asked Questions
Is ECH2O suitable for ceramic coated vehicles?
Yes, it is designed for use on coated vehicles and also works on uncoated or waxed surfaces. Follow your coating’s curing and maintenance instructions before using cleaners on a fresh application.
Can ECH2O replace a coating preparation spray?
No. Use an appropriate preparation product such as CARPRO Eraser for that step. ECH2O’s lubricants can interfere with coating bonding.
Why does ECH2O sometimes leave haze?
Our video demonstrates the importance of a clean final wipe, especially on glass. Buff away remaining residue with a fresh towel and check your dilution, application amount, and towel condition if finishing becomes difficult.
Is stronger dilution always better?
Choose the dilution for the task. A waterless wash needs a different mix from a drying aid or clay lubricant. More concentrate is not a substitute for clean towels, proper technique, or choosing an appropriate wash method.
Do I still need dedicated detailing products?
Yes. ECH2O covers several maintenance tasks, while fabric cleaning, coating preparation, persistent contamination, and durable protection have their own requirements.
Put ECH2O to Work in Your Detailing Routine
The appeal of ECH2O is how easily it adapts to the job in front of you. Mix a bottle for maintenance washing, another for claying or drying, and reach for the application that fits the condition of the vehicle.
Start with the right dilution, keep your towels clean, and work one panel at a time. Those habits help you get the cleaning ability, gloss, and slickness that make ECH2O a favorite here at Sky’s the Limit Car Care.
